Barney Frank's Real Priorities

Barney Frank is very concerned lately that taxpayers may be spending too much money on national defense and wants to save us money. He thinks America would be better off if we listened to the recommendations of the 14-member panel he assembled to identify where to cut $1 trillion in our national defense over ten years. Twelve out of the 14-members of the panel have no defense experience, including Mr. Frank. So what is their experience? Environmentalists, animal rights activists, avowed pacifists, a former Clinton speechwriter and other political appointees. One member, a Boston College professor, believes that the real enemy is private property!

Barney is taking me on in the pages of the Standard-Times newspaper for calling him out on this naïve and dangerous plan. I will say without equivocation, we would NOT be better off with the kind of “savings” he proposes.

On the other hand, thanks to a post by the Club for Growth we get a feel for Barney Frank’s real spending priorities over national defense. Music hall restoration, a seafood institute, potato research, theater renovation, and the list goes on.

Barney can find money for these programs, but calls spending on national defense wasteful? The notion that he's supporting some kind of fiscal responsibility is laughable in the face of all his votes for pork.

It's time for a change--just look at the current state of the economy, or our political leadership's focus on redistributing wealth rather than creating prosperity, or the idea that government should be continually expanded to address any and all problems. Too often our elected officials put representation of an ideology ahead of representation of the people.
